Hip pain is a very common problem that is treated by chiropractors, physiotherapists and massage therapists every day. Most hip pain is benign and has a very good prognosis. Why do I have Hip Pain?

Painful hips can be caused by many different things. Most are simple mechanical problems like buttock muscles strains or referred pain from spinal joints or muscles. In older people hips can become painful and immobile due to Osteoarthritis but conditions such as Polymyalgia Rheumatica should be ruled out as this will require medication.

What are the symptoms of Hip Pain?

Hip pain can be soreness or tenderness anywhere from the upper or lower buttocks to the groin or outer thigh.

Can Chiropractors help with Hip Pain?

When presented with a painful hip, our chiropractors, physiotherapists and massage therapists perform a thorough examination to determine the root cause of the pain. Soft tissue injuries or referred pain from the spine or other areas usually has a very good prognosis and can be treated with massage or manipulation and exercise advice.

Arthritic hips cannot be cured however can often be managed. Treatment and advice can be given to minimise discomfort and maximise function of an arthritic hip.

Can Pregnant Women have Hip Pain treated with Chiropractic?

During pregnancy Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) can be a source of great discomfort for many women. There is no reason not to seek care from chiropractors, physiotherapists or massage therapists throughout pregnancy; advice and treatment techniques may be limited in some cases but can be tailored to the patient’s needs in every trimester, right up until birth.
